As teenagers, we all love to party in some kind of way; whether it be good or bad, all teens like to do it. And when the weekend or major breaks roll around we know what time it is. Making the plans with friends and arranging the event around a parent’s departure and finding out whose bringing what, But when is the party planning taken to far? More than 60% of teen parties include alcohol and other type of drugs. Many teens don’t believe that it’s a party without some kind of drug, they partially know most of the facts about drinking, but they do not want to acknowledge them! They know that the fun would be ruined if they acknowledged the facts like:
A person’s brain continues to develop into his or her early 20s. Alcohol may have long lasting effects on your intellectual abilities and increase the likelihood of alcohol dependence.
Car crashes are the leading cause of death among people from ages 15 to 20. About 1,900 people under 21 die every year from car crashes involving underage drinking.
Or that alcohol interacts with conditions like depression and stress and contributes to around 300 suicides in teens a year. High school students who drink are twice as likely to commit suicide than high school students who do not drink.
Alcohol also increases sexual behavior. Teens that drink have a higher likelihood of engaging in some type of sexual activity with someone they may not know are unprotected. This can lead to STDS, Pregnancy or just guilt which can take us back to depression!
You can also put your self at risk for molestation, rape or just being taken advantage of. It can be from a total stranger or a person you may have been drinking with such as your own boyfriend! This is a common product of teen parties which can lead to serious mental problems in young peoples mind. Being mentally unstable from either committing the act or being a victim can also lead to depression or worst case suicide
The effects of teen party drinking can be very bad. They frequently lead to something drastic but not all the time. Realistically, Telling teens not to drink is not going to stop them and they usually grow out of it or something tragic has to happen to stop them. So the second best thing we can do after telling them not to drink is ask them to at least drink responsibly.
